This season, the images of Burkinabe photographer Nyaba Léon Ouedraogo, a modern-day griot, accompany the program by being exhibited in the Kantina and illustrating the posters. Nyaba Léon Ouedraogo defines his practice as a fusion of animism and photography, listening to forgotten memories and the symbolic and concrete forms of the living. In his investigations of “soul devourers”, for example, or his creations to reinterpret masks or represent the myth of the Saint-Louis Senegal River goddess Mame Coumba Bang, the image brings to life the uninterrupted dialogue between the visible and the invisible, playing on contrasts, colors and masks to render sensitive that which escapes documentary illusion.
